The First Day (OPEN TO ALL)

Gabrial walked into his new beat, the memory of his... ”Reception” still very fresh… The CO of Manehatten told him he may as well return to Ponyville, or better yet hide under daddy’s Shadow, All he did was remain at attention, and waited for his duties, he was given patrol duty in the Slums, as many of the older guard looked to Co and say with some surprise, “uhh.. sir he’s just a Kid, no need to send him in there..” All the CO did was smile, to see if Gabrial would complain, but all he asked for was,” SIR YES SIR, Sir I need a map of my patrol, and then I will be on duty!” The CO withdraws a map and gives it to him and dismisses Gabrial.
Gabrial sighs, and continues his patrol, hoping to run into some action, to finaly do some good, Gabrial also had a secret hope of running into DJ-Pon3, but knew that down here.. He was far more likely to kiss a manticore.

In Manehattan, the maid dress had a strange meaning.

They were of course worn by the servants of the wealthy, and thus signaled them being in the service of the wealthy and the influential. Harming those who wore the outfit therefore meant damaging the property of the rich and powerful, which meant...

The maid dress had the meaning of "I am protected. Harm at own risk."

That's if you saw them at all. Everypony knew that maids were neither seen nor heard unless they were called upon. This was the origin of the 'ninja maid' joke/stereotype. Nameless knew that joke had a stroger foundation in fact more than the average pony.

So if her duties just happened to involve passing through the worst parts of the city, Nameless made sure she was damn well not noticed by anypony. She had come quite a distance from the blank flanked filly that stumbled into the slum districts in a blind panic. Okay, she was still a blank flanked filly, but her stealthy movements had both purpose and grace.

In stark contrast to the guard she was observing at the present time. In a way, he reminded her of Renny, eager to do good, but with none her friend's caution that growing up in the city automatically taught you. It was if he wanted to stumble flank first into an ambush in a district where armour and weapons merely meant valuable loot.

In fact, Nameless observed, there was a bunch of undesirables heading the guard's way now. Nameless did the sensible thing and kept out of notice. There was no reason to get involved in the inevitable violence.

Gabrial walked further into this unknown territory, truth be told, living in Cantterlot had taught Gabrial to treat another, even a criminal with some respect, and they in turn they show some respect. As a group of ponies walk towards Gabrial, he tried to throw up a smile, but all he could do was scowl, something about these five made him uneasy… The three earth ponies look to the Pegaus , and the unicorn. The way they walked, the Unicorn was the brains of the outfit, he quickly nods to the others, and the three earth ponies surround him, as the Pegasi suddenly took to the air and started to look out, as the Unicorn smirks and speaks with a higher born tone, “Ahh Hello sir, you must be the new guard in town, otherwise youd know far better then to enter this side of town without someone watching your back.. Now please as a lesson and as toll, Remove your armor, and hand here..” Gabrial raises a eyebrow but continues his scowl, “ Sir. I Gabrial Heart-Sheild, here by place you under arrest, for the crimes of attempted robbery, threating a guard of the city court. You will come with me.” As Gabrial finished this all the group did was laugh, Gabrial then looks to them, and says,” You Lot wanna follow his example? Then youre all under arrest, come with me without incdent, and I shall assure you all a proper and fair trial!” This only cuased them to laugh louder.

It was the dignity instilled in Nameless that prevented her from facehoofing at the exchange. It was a little depressing, on both fronts. The display of the green guard was embarassing, but expected. It was the thugs that were more disappointing, though. They were grandstanding. Nameless shook her head.

The air sensed inevitable confict, and those that could read it started leaving the scene. The beggars and vagrants would hear, see and say nothing of what was about to come. Nameless stayed in her hiding spot, still watching, even though she knew what would happen next.

Gabrial looks around, as his eyes focus on who he should take down first, He knew he couldent get them all, but if he did this smart, he could walk away from this, but a single foolish move, would more then likely spell pain, but he sensed that ether way he looked at it, He was not walking out of this place without a hoof in his jaw. Gabrial thought fast, as they laughed he used his magic to knock back the earth pony on his left, then Draws his sword slashing the one on his right, then bucks the one behind him, then looks the unicorn square in the eyes, his horn glowing a deep shade of red, as he speaks with his sword in his mouth, “Surrender now or else!” The Unicorn looks right into Gabrial’s eyes and smiles maliously, And speaks with a equaly nasty tone, ”foal, you don’t have the guts for the ‘or else’ line… so why don’t you drop your sword and armor and no body need get anymore hurt then what my boys owe you..” Gabrial was afraid… The Unicorn was right, he dident have the guts to follow through with the threat… Gabrial drops the sword, the Unicorn smirks and says,” I knew you dident have it in you. You’re weak, you don’t have the will to take justice.” Gabrial dident look up, but he smiles, and speaks with a soft tone so the Unicorn leans in, “I have the will to take justice… Just not to break the law to do so!” HE let loose a lot of his magical energy to blow the Unicorn away, just as one of his brutes bucks Gabrial in the jaw, knocking Gabrial as the earth pony starts to kick hard, trying to do as much damage as poosible, as the Pegasi in the air hoots his comrade on. The training Gabrial had, never prepared him for the pain he was feeling, but his pride would not allow him to cry out, he only bit his lip to keep silent

A rock flew, hitting one of the brutes on the back of the head.

"Um... take that?"

OzyManedias' eye twitched involuntarily. He was a pretty pitiful sight, the scrawny pegasus with a bag of hard-to obtain herbs (and other not so legal items) lay at his side. Every muscle in the stallion's body screamed to run away and hide, to pretend like a guard was not being beaten into a bloody little pulp in the middle of the alleyway.

What ever happened to friendship and harmony?

One of the brutes stood by the fallen guard and snarled, while the other burly earth pony stared dumbly at him.

The shadow of a trash bin shifted and shimmered into the shape of a foal, it smiled, and watched silently.

"Yeah... thats right... you fellows want some of this?" OzyManedias grinned stupidly as the pegasus thug shifted into position. He continued talking, anything to get them to stop thrashing on the guard. "I mean really? picking on Equestria's Finest? Are you all DEMENTED-" He was cut off when the earth pony tackled him to the ground. The other pegasus floated down and cackled like a hyena. The earth pony closest to the guard sat back and watched stoically. OzyManedias coughed as he got up shakily. He could feel a bruise forming on his cheek. "Oh come on, my father could throw a better punch and he's been dead a thousand years!" Well, no harm in dressing the truth in a hyperbole (not that these plebeians cared. The earth pony chuckled stupidly as he advanced slowly on OzyManedias. Maybe it's just me, but i sincerely hope I don't die here. OzyManedias died once.

It was terribly dull.

the shadow-foal disappeared.

"Ahem."

Maids were never heard or seen if they weren't needed. If they were, they were present immediately. The filly emerged from the shadows with a solemn expression, one trying to be as serious as possible.

All eyes turned to the seemingly out of place figure striding into the scene of the fray. One of the earth ponies, the one confronting the pegasus good samaritan, started looking around at the shadows in a panic, before rushing off.

The pegasus landed in front of her, seemingly confused at the anomaly, before sneering, "Go run along, little filly, the big ponies are having a conversation."

Though trembling inside, Nameless met the sneer with a cool, calculating stare. "You know I'm property. Do you know who owns me?"

Intimidation seemingly failed, the pegasus' sneer turned into a scowl as he raised a hoof to strike. "No, I don't. Nor do I-" He paused, blinking, memory turning the gears in his mind, making connections from stuff he had heard in the past to the situation in the present.

In a blink, he was quite a distance from the small filly. "You're the crazy maid bitch that slaughtered all of Thud's old gang, aren't you? And blew up that warehouse after slitting the throats of, oh sweet Celestia..."

Nameless had no response beyond simply staring at the pegasus as it backed away, always keeping the filly in sight. She wasn't the 'crazy maid bitch', but she was not about to correct his rambling. "Oh, Luna, no wonder Thud ran like Nightmare Moon herself was after him, oh, shit, oh shit, oh shit..." The pegasus then flew off.

That left three, all a bit dazed from the scuffle, struggling to their feet. The unicorn stared at the filly, coming to the same conclusion as his pegasus thug. "What do you want?" he demanded.

"With him joining in," Nameless motioned to the Good Samaritan, "This could spiral control into a street gang war." The unicorn glared at OzyManedias. Nameless continued, "My masters would rather not that happen."

"The bastard should stick to his own gang's turf," the unicorn growled, spitting at the feet of the object of his disgust, "F*cking opportunist probably wanted to get the drop on us when we struggled with Guard Fancy Fresh from Foreign. He's the one that you should be dealing with."

Nameless turned her head to look at OzyManedias. This was what they said when they talked about keeping control of the situation. With the 'crazy bitch mare' story around, Nameless had more influence than she could ever dreamed of. It was time to use it wisely.

"Good point," she conceded, keeping her nervousness hidden. "Why did you interfere?" she asked OzyManedias, "It was not your place to."

AN: Apologies if I took too much liberty with the thugs. Also, Thud's old gang getting massacredactually took place during RP, and the notoriety of the incident affects much of this post.

The Thugs looked around to their boss, who now stood up, his eyes peeled, he had been sucker punched by a guard, a green horn no less, but.. This filly.. If she could be even called that, she killed so many, Stallions like him, and rumor went she did it without a single sweat, Then there was this little whelp of a peaguses, if they let these little common folk start to stand up… it would be only steps before they would start to take up weapons against them… and take back the streets.. He then looks to his underlings and nods at them.
Gabrial looks up, pain echoed loudly throughout his body, He felt like crying out in pain so badly but his pride held his tongue, he then looks up at the young pegasi who was just tackled, he was a innocent who wanted to do the right thing, Gabrial wanted to do everything to protect the young one and this Filly, for he could not beleive she was capiable of such acts, or able to do so. Gabrial wanted to belive the best of poines, but that vision was almost ruined by these thugs, and if he walked away from this encount, he would be far more careful, and he would try three times as hard to take down such orginzations! They proved to be so much more Dangerous to the common pony. Gabrial tries to stand but quickly cringes in pain and lays back down, as the earth pony hits him one more time to keep him down, saying with a gruff tone,” Get up again and I’ll make sure the next buck hits you hard enough in the leg to show bone.” Gabrial only stared in pure anger, he wanted to blast these criminals to the prison, but he dare not allow his anger power his magic.

Once upon a time, there was a king who wanted everypony to be happy, and nothing to hurt...

OzyManedias slowly got to his hooves and grabbed his bag of not-so-legal goods. he didn't know where this little filly came from, but he wasnt one to condemn a good thing. He was out of breath and banged up, but he had stopped the fight.
"Quibus finitis deos gratias ago."

"Good point," she conceded, keeping her nervousness hidden. "Why did you interfere?" she asked OzyManedias, "It was not your place to."

His head turned to face the unicorn and the maid. He swallowed the lump in his throat And slicked his mane back. the pesky lock of mane fell into his eye. there was a regal, majestic air that came to the stallion, as if he belonged in the Canterlot Castle rather than the middle of a slum in Manehattan.

a streetlight flickered, then stopped working. there was a shadow of a foal where no foal stood. OzyManedias didn't notice.

"It was the right thing to do." He finally said. Even with a bruised face, if looks could kill, The unicorn would be incinerated. OzyManedias stared at him with a well-practiced mixture of pity, amusement, and annoyance. Like a stranger dealing with a unruly little filly.

The shadow shivered and shook silently with amusement.

He was no longer the pitiful owner of a small cafe on Rose street at the outskirts of Ponyville. OzyManedias the III pointed towards the earth pony who bucked the guard down again.

"Stop."

The two earth ponies glanced nervously at each other. between the killer-maid and the scary pegasus, they couldn't tell whether they should beat them down or scream and run. As their leader wasnt doing anything, they followed his example and backed up a little. OzyManedias the III strode to Gabrial's side. "Hm. you'll survive." Ozy chuckled nervously "I guess that's good." He was a pitiful little cafe owner once again, weak and insignificant. He looked at the maid, then to the Unicorn. "Honestly. I... um... I just saw you... er...."

"Mugging" a shadow whispered into his ear.

"Mugging this stallion and I was..." He suddenly took a great interest in his hooves. "I was very foolish."

The shadow of a foal's chuckle became a silent laughter, rolling on the floor.

"Not mugging. Teaching," the unicorn groused, "Guards like him, ponies like you...come to this city thinking you're the bee knees, wanting to 'bring justice' or some other shit like that, and what actually happens is that everypony gets f*cked over because some blowhard didn't know how to let shit be. Why d'you think you were sent here with no f*cking backup, huh? Even the pigs know how the rules work, and they know that the best teaching is when the lesson is beaten into ya."

He then looked cautiously at the filly, knowing that asking her for support was akin to letting a griffon brush your teeth. "You know how it goes. Tell these jokers the toll still stands. Give us the armor, and we'll be on our way."

Nameless, who up until this point had been looking at shadows, blinked at being addressed, then said slowly, "I have heard it said that some guards have been able to pass through these areas with their full set of armor, and no bruises to speak of."

One of the earth ponies snorted, "Yeah, but those are chumps with the-" The sentence was quickly cut off by the glares of his fellows.

Nameless took another glance at the shadows, a small frown forming on her features. Something was incredibly strange here. She had a dark feeling that magic was afoot.

Gabrial looks to the young Pegasi, and smiles, his words were well placed, as he gets up slowly, he listened carefully, learning everything he could, then the sense that there was something far deeper, corruption within the guard, this was something he would not stand, but he would not endanger the two innocents, but one day he would see all participated in the corruption before the Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, ready to be judged for their crimes against Equestria. He throws the armor, as he spits out blood and says, “Cheap iron, and leather... good luck getting more then 20 bits, you lot probley put more effort in beating me then the piece of craps worth.” Gabrial then looks to the young Pegasi, and smiles, “Thank you, you didn’t have to help, yet you did, I owe you when this is all said and done...” He then looks to the Maid and nods to her, with a smile, then looks/scowls at the Thugs, the very aspect of all that effort and only 20 bits to show for it, “ He has to be lying!” The Unicorn suddenly magic’s the armor and looks closely and growls loudly, as Gabrial smirks,” I don’t lie, against my code of honor.”

Thunder Star flies around, looking for a place to rest after her long journey from her hometown, the name she can't remember after losing her sister and parents. Her parents abandoned her before she could get to know them and her sister watched over from a foal to an adult, then she left unexpectantly.

As she's flying around, she sees a stallion getting beat to death by three earth ponies and him giving up his armor. Since she was bullied once before for not having parents around as a little filly, she suddenly gets an idea on how to get back at the thugs. She flies up high to make sure no one was paying attention to her then finds the nearest storm cloud. She kicks it over the thugs and kicks it, making it rain all over them. She giggles on top of the cloud lightly so no one hears her, not liking to draw attention to herself and watches the thugs closely, and others closely for a reaction.

Let shit be.
LET SHIT BE.

And then the guard just hands over his armor like this sort of behavior is permissable? OzyManedias ground his teeth. He was going to give that ingrate a peice of his mind. Even if he was injured for it! If hewas king, this sort of thing would never happen!

Vassago was having the time of his life, watching the little exchanges, it was all so fascinating, watching this, and now some doofus had made it RAIN on the thugs! His shadowy form shifted to the other side of the alley, behind Nameless. He marveled at the simplicity of the shade-walk spell he was testing out, but Something Nameless was catching on.

And yes, he did know her name.

Vassago knows a whole lot of things. For example, one third of the royal guards garrisoned at Manehattan are in the mob's pocket, OzyManedias has a strange fixation with a very specific period of history that technically didn't exist, and was not born (according to the Canterlot archives, where there was a birth certificate of every equestrian citizen). He also happened to know that Something Nameless liked vanilla icecream.

He was very good at knowing things.

"Bored." He whispered to himself. Like stepping through a door, he stepped out of the shadow, and took his real shape. The foal, about the same age as Nameless, had a sickly green mane, carelessly cropped and arrow-like. his equally sickly yellow fur was akin to old papyrus. He sat down and concentrated on the thugs: the pegasus, the two earth ponies, and the unicorn. That was four... he would strain, but that was alright. nopony had noticed him, and probably wouldn't. Except... he met the gaze of Nameless and winked cleverly.

His horn lit up, he guided his magic into the minds of the four gang members, and let his imagination do the rest.

What Nameless, Gabrial, OzyManedias, Thunder Star, and Vassago saw:

Ozy swiftly strode up to the leader of the ruffians, kicking the iron armor back towards Gabrial.
"See here you! I don't care about who you work for, or why you think you can rob upstanding citizens blind, but let me tell you!"
Pause for dramatic effect... He slicked his rain-soaked mane out of back
"This is Equestria! The metropolitan city of Manehattan! This day and age has no room for ruffians like you! You ought to be ashamed! You are going to leave us alone now!"
OzyManedias jutted his jaw out defiantly. He sincerely hoped he wouldn't get beaten to death.

What the four thugs saw:

Ozy swiftly strode up to the leader of the ruffians, kicking the iron armor back towards Gabrial.
"See here you! I don't care about who you work for, or why you think you can rob upstanding citizens blind, but let me tell you..." He started to grow, towering over even the Pegasus, who was currently flying 10 feet above the ground. His wings became akin to a bat's, a jagged horn grew from his brow as the Eye of Horus covered his body. His golden eyes glowed like the sun, harsh and unforgiving.

When he spoke, He sounded like a raging sandstorm, his voice resonating directly into their minds.

THIS DAY AND AGE HAS NO ROOM FOR RUFFIANS LIKE YOU. YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE RIGHT NOW.

Needless to say, the illusion had the desired effect. The combination of rain from out of nowhere, a angry god-king-thing, a psychotic-foal maid, and THERE WAS NOT A FOAL AND NOW THERE IS A FOAL.

The pegasus, the two earth ponies, and the unicorn screamed like school-fillies and ran, tail between their hind legs, in the opposite direction.

OzyManedias blinked. "Erat ea aliquid dixi?" He didn't really know why he wasn't being brutally killed, but again, he was not one to question good fortune.

Vassago's horn subtly stopped glowing. A little drop of blood trickled down his nose, but he smiled despite the exhaustion his magic caused him. He grinned at Nameless and winked again.

Something Nameless watched the events unfold in front of her impassively. Apart from the small surprise of the sudden rain and the thugs running away in fear of a battered a bruised pony, she was unfazed. When all was said and done, she nodded at the ponies still present, and walked out of their lives, never to return.

That was what she planned to do.

What she actually did start trembling, and almost collapse on the spot as her legs threatened to give way under her. Too many impossible things had happened all at once. What was she doing, getting herself into situations that could have gotten herself killed? And for what? Ponies that may as well be gone tomorrow?

"What?" she gasped as her legs carried out their threat. That single word question was repeated over and over as she struggled to fight back the tears that threatened to show. The layer of security, of serenity that seemed to always be there was stripped from her, leaving Nameless frustrated, confused and shaking.

"What was that?" she vented at no pony in particular, "What in the name of all that is good were you thinking? Why didn't you just walk away? It was none of your concern! All you did was made the situation worse, and you could've been killed for it!" Her calm demeanour was gone completely. "You know what's going to happen now? Innocent ponies are going to get roughed up for what you did in a single moment of..." Her rant was cut off as she gasped for breath between furious sobs.

She murmured a small private prayer before turning to the colt that had materialised in her sight, meeting his mocking expression with a gaze with that was comparable to a dagger carved out of ice. After bringing her breathing back to normal after a couple of deep exhalations, she struggled to her feet.

Gabrial looks to the Mare, and walks to her, a little of a limp from pain, but he kept a solemn face, his eyes unfazed, as he helps the mare to her hooves, then looks to the Pegasus on the ground, something was strange about this one, for what he said had such a major effect on the Thugs, and not to be rude, but this young one didn’t scare him, and, then to the sky, with a smile, he noticed in only rained on the thugs, and says to what he could only assume, there was four other than himself,” I thank you all, but from what I understood from what those thugs were saying… There is corruption with the Guard, so nothing against any of you, but I will not be placing your names in my report of the day, and I will need to look into see how far the corruption goes...” Gabrial smiles warmly, but had a deep suspicion on how far; His CO was more than willing to send him in this place, maybe hoping that a sure beating would break him. “But for my own personal call, May I know the names of my saviors?” His posture, calm, and admitingly relaxed, he then uses his magic to re-sheathed his sword, not red with the unicorns blood, though deep down, he knew this whole situation could have been avoided if he killed the unicorn, but something in his heart stopped him, he was justified in his defense yet he would not draw blood.

Thunder Star flew down slowly and looks at the mare speaking "Thunder Star, I was only trying to help, not that fond on bullies picking on other ponies because I know how it feels, I was picked on a lot in the past for reasons." she states as she looks at the other three ponies on the ground, wondering whether or not she should've interfered at all. She was only trying to help the ponies being harmed.

Ozy sneered with disgust at Nameless' misdirected rant. He could tell she was a native of Manehattan, her submission to the thugs was despicable.

"'He who has the ability to act on an injustice, but who stands idly by, is just as guilty as he who holds the knife.'" He remembered the proverb well. (He should, he coined it.) His wings shook the dirt from them and settled into a more comfortable position.
"Where I used to live, omission was a sin punishable by death." He now remembered why. Call him Draconian, but he never tolerated the 'what can I do?' excuse.

Vassago frowned, but not from disgust. If he was correct, she didnt like him. That wasnt the desired effect. Why didnt she like him?

Vassago's grin returned as he trotted to Nameless' side. "Well, I thought you were remarkably clever. your quite good, keeping your head like that. One might say your... Something! Do you understand? Something Nameless is your NAME" He laughed loudly and fell over at his own intellect. "I am going to be your friend." He stated, as if she had no say in the matter, and he sat up and beamed at her.

OzyManedias' face blanched as he instinctively tightened his grip on his bag. Was it damaged?He may have fell on it when he was attacked. If his name was caught on a report...
"Ozy." He croaked. "They call me Ozy." Hopefully a full name wouldn't be needed. He quickly peaked into his parcel. Of course it was in perfect shape. Exactly the way he had gotten it a millennium ago. it was special like that.

Vassago kept his attention to Nameless, ignoring the stupid Grown Ups. His mouth moved remarkably fast, spewing sentences at remarkable speeds. "Those thugs were really quite foolish, mistaking you for your colleague. Although she must have been quite scary to have inspired that reaction. I've been wondering about that a while, after hearing it through the grape vine. I mean, a maid? it sounds like an urban legend! to be fair I AM a urban legend. Not to brag or anything." He pointed to his cutie mark((http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/Vassago.jpg for your reference)) his mouth increased its motion, turning his speech into a stream of near indistinguishable words.

"SpeakingofbraggingIknowyouworkforthoseprominentblackmarketeersandIwantedtoproposeabusinessarangmentblahblahblahblahblah..." He started to feel slightly dizzy, so Vassago decided to collapse.

He sprawled out on the grimy alleyway, slightly dazed from his overuse of magic and his super-equine ability to talk at uncanny length.

"I feel a sudden craving for icecream." Vassago gasped. he strained a bit, before looking up to Nameless pleadingly "could you help? I cannot get up. that happens sometimes. My Masters don't like me using their gifts in excess." He sighed in exhaustion.

(Am amused at your ponies 'reactions to a filly essentially having an emotional breakdown. We'll make Manehattenites out of them yet.)

In situations like these, where the world honestly didn't seem to make sense, Nameless usually adopted the policy of WWLD, that is, What Would Loyal Do? In this case, she would smirk at these ponies with a mixture of amusement, surprise and ridicule, then proceed to mock everything about what they said and laugh at their inevitable reactions of anger.

Nameless did not think she had enough courage in her to attempt such a thing.

So instead she applied the next best thing, What Would Loyal Say, and replied to Ozy, "One is equally dead whether by the law or not. And death cares for no law." She tried to emulate her parent's confidence, but was unable to keep the tremble out of her voice.

She did not fully understand why none of the other ponies were not reacting to the creepy colt. What was even more scary was that he knew who she was, but not vice-versa. This was an unheard of situation. No pony should either know or care about her unless she allowed it.

"I'm Nameless," she said, as the colt started laughing at her full name, trying not to be intimidated at either his mockery or his forced proposal of friendship, "And I'm afraid of what you ponies will do in the name of...whatever 'justice' is supposed to be. Especially since it appears to involve acting without thinking."

It was nothing like talking to Renny, or Loyal, or White, or Herald, or Admirer. They would listen and talk about what she thought, while these ponies...they would probably just brush over her concerns in favour of their established beliefs, as terrible as those beliefs might be.

When the colt collapsed on the ground, rambling nonsense, Nameless finally turned to address him. "Manners dictate that one should introduce themselves before proposing to share a meal with them. Who, exactly, are you?"

(Don’t be so sure Dontpressenter… Gabrial just hasent asked the lady in front of strangers.)

Gabrial smiles and looks to the Filly who was obviously in trouble, deep down and then nods to the others, but something the strange skinny colt said made Gabrial draw his sword, and he looks into it the colts words echoing, "He who has the ability to act on an injustice, but who stands idly by, is just as guilty as he who holds the knife.” Gabrial couldent help but think… could he kill if he needed to… would there ever really be a time where his magic could not aid him, Gabrial shook his head and sheathed his blade and heard his savioirs names, and smiles gently, and bows “Thank you all, normally I’d do all I can to assure you’re justly rewarded, but… with the way the guards are here, Im afraid all I can give is my friendship.” Gabrial then looks to the strange Pegasi and helps him up with his magic, and asks,” Are you all alrght?” He looks to both The Maid? Yes she had mentioned she was property, and this bothered Gabrial, she was a pony, not… something to be owned, and then to the strange colt, who just strangely asked for ice cream. His smile hadent fade, but he was alittle more curious now of the Maid, the Colt, but Thunder Star had made her reasons clear, He had to nod his head to this Mare, and smile.

Vassago struggled against Gabrial's much stronger grip, before giving up and becoming limp. He didnt LIKE grown ups, they were always so condescending. "Yes Im fine." He frowned grumpily. Not that he could do anything on the matter...

Its quite easy to quote proverbs then act self righteous when the opposing party doesnt comment back. The filly was partially right, of course. OzyManedias was finding it ever more difficult to do the right thing and not be killed. But if she only knew the consequences of-

"You arrogant idiots!" The King OzyManedias III roared at his commanding officers. "There were mares and foals in the-"

The memory hovered on the brink of remembrance, but eluded him. Of course he remembered the Conquest. its just some details were... fuzzy. Rather than try and debate philosophy with the filly, OzyManedias turned his attention to the small unicorn on the guards back. There was something... off about the foal. He hadn't seen him before, but he could have sworn he met the kid, like as if some all-knowing puppet master had paired the two together for some sick ((roleplaying)) game. ((TEEHEE))

Vassago brightened up considerably. He had been wanting to flaunt his newest achievement since he started this whole "Demoning" business. Its incredibly hard, convincing ponies that you're a ethereal spirit, but with a few parlor tricks, black magic, and enough money, you can convince anypony of pretty much anything.

He rifled through a bag before producing a leatherbound book titled (in gothic lettering) The Lesser Key of SoloMane. He leafed through the book and found a bookmarked page. Proudly, he put up a highlighted entry that read:

"The Third Spirit is a Mighty Prince, being of the same nature as Agares. He is called Vassago. This Spirit is of a Good Nature, and his office is to declare things Past and to Come, and to discover all things Hid or Lost. And he governeth 26 Legions of Spirits, and this is his Seal."

"Granted." Vassago smiled smugly, "They may have exaggerated some things, I don't have 26 Legions of Spirits at my beck and call, but still, Its something." He shakily got off of Gabrial and mumbled something that sounded like gratitude. He walked up to Nameless again, and smiled his ridiculously foolish smile "I think you really good. quite clever. My Masters tell me I have a good eye for ponies."

Somehow, and Vassago and OzyManedias couldn't tell whether it was just them or not, but they began to suspect that Something Nameless was a little bit upset because of something...

Maybe it was the weather.

"Huh?" Nameless said, before editing it to be the more polite, "Pardon?"
She had no idea what kind of introduction the colt was trying to pull. The whole 'spirit from another world' act went completely over her head for it to make any sense or impact on her. She couldn't exactly read either, so all the book was to her was a mixture of lines and scribbles.

What she did understand is that the colt had his masters, as did she. "If your masters want to organise something involving the household they would do well contacting Mister Herald or Missus Admirer themselves. I am of no importance, and am not in the position to make such arrangements."

Nameless looked around. "In any case, it would be wise to keep moving before the ponies you scared away come to their senses and bring twice their number to finish the job. And I do not feel inclined to hang around for that scenario. This way, sirs and miss."

The young servant filly then started to to lead them the most direct route out of the rough areas.

Gabrial Looks to the strange Colt, and what he spoke of were things beyond what should be his worries, things that not even a stallion of Gabrial’s age should worry of things like this, and this strange colt should be more worried of whether he should ask nice filly weather or not to court her. Gabrial looks to Nameless and speaks with a kind tone, “Yes Miss, are you sure you’re okay to walk?” Gabrial fallows her close, he wanted to act fast if she was about to fall, but most he looked to his new allies and watched carefully, ready to throw up a shield spell, to buy his allies a few moments to escape should it arise. Gabrial then looks to these young ponies and couldn’t help think ‘They grew up too fast... They should have not needed to worry about thugs like that....’ He continues to follow her, his eyes watching the corner.

OzyManedias didnt comment of the strange foal's introduction. Although whoever he was, his choice of reading must have been archaic. The Lesser Key of SoloMane was one of the more popular books of demonology of modern times.

(as a side note, a majority of the information in the book is either grossly exaggerated, from second hand sources, or flat out false.)

He didnt dwell on it though, as the immediate threat of any retaliation. made him forget his little friend peculiar literary tastes.

Vassago smiled much less enthusiastically after the... less than stellar reception of his introduction.

There was something peculiar about how Nameless recieved it though. the way she stared at the page like some an alien thing...

Was she illiterate?

Vassago's eyes widened. She started talking about something about masters... then the thugs... and then she started walking away.

Vassago followed her dumbly.

Illiteracy, to a pony (rest assured, Vassago is 90% pony.) such as Vassago, was pure insanity. How could you live in a world of information without the ability to read?

"Can you read?" Vassago asked Nameless stupidly.

While Vassago made a fool of himself, OzyManedias focused his attention to the guard. rather than putting his trust in a filly who watched ponies be beaten, he decided to trust the guard. He was no idiot. If the thugs come, stick with the well armed one. He tapped his armored shoulder

"So... er... if you don't mind me asking... What is [i]your[/i[ name? what were you doing here anyway? you know this is not a very safe part of town." He looked around cautiously, he was more curious than mad or concerned.
"If you don't mind me asking, of course."

"You should be worrying more about yourself," Nameless replied to the guard, her calm facade fully recovered, "After all, I was not the the one that was in a fight."

Not pausing in her stride, she then turned towards the colt, "I never needed to. So I never have."
This was said quite plainly, like she was talking about her favourite colour. "So your book thing, I didn't really get it."

Looking left and right for any danger, but seeing none, she continued leading the retinue out of the slums. "The guard was here so that he could learn that Manehattan works differently than the other cities. Unlike Canterlot, there isn't the threat of a sun Princess to hold things in line, and that the guards are just one of many forces of power vying for control of trade."

“What is your name? What were you doing here anyway? You know this is not a very safe part of town.”
Gabrial smiled and was about to say something but was cut off before he could reply The guard was here so that he could learn that Manehattan works differently than the other cities. Gabrial looked to the filly, and speaks with a more formal tone, “ Yes… The noble lady here is correct in some ways, it dose seem like I was sent here to be ether harmed in a more lethal manor, or to beat me into submission, and forced back home, But I have no intention of such… but yes I know that things in this town are bad.” Gabrial sensed he was only scratching the surface, but he was going to fight for this city and for its people, He would show the pride of Canterlot to Manehatten and bring true law to this town, but with things going as they are, he needed to take down the corrupt guards, if true law was to return to help the common pony, to show them that not all guards were crule, corrupt, that things could be far better.
Gabrial looks to this young colt and smiles, and speaks with a less formal tone again,” I am Gabrial Heart-Shield, and don’t fear to ask questions of me.”
