Poker Night at the Household Empty
PostSubject: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeFri May 17, 2013 6:53 am

The Household was, like many of the houses of the Manehatten elite, a piece of beauty surrounded by the desolation of a concrete and steel jungle. Even the door you knocked on was a piece of art made of rosewood. Or was it pine? An expert on wood you were not. It did, however provide a satisfying knocking sound when you rapped your hoof on it. It only took a few seconds for that door to open as if blown by the wind...until you looked down and saw that it was really opened by a nameless filly maid.

"You must be here for the poker game," she says, "Please, this way." The door opens fully and you enter to realise that the interior was just as regal, if not more so, than the exterior.
"Is this your first time to play in the household?" the maid asks. You confirm her suspicions.
"Do you want to know more about it?" You accept her offer of knowledge.

"The Household has been holding poker nights for a while now, offering a seat to all who have the money and the courage to play against somewhat eccentric characters. To say nothing of what happens when big losses are made.

Otherwise, it's really just an opportunity for ponies to relax, and converse with other ponies that they may not have met otherwise. We get all sorts that come to our poker nights. They are almost always interesting. One time, we had a shy inventor win over a chattering wanderer, a frizzy haired editor, and a huge pegasus that didn't seem to be either a mare or stallion.

Another detail of note is our dealer...but you'll just have to experience that for yourself."

As she exposits, she leads you through the hallways into a basement type area, with a number of tables, and a bar tended by another maid, this one of actual working age.

"Hey! You're new!" the tender exclaims, "Hey there, sweetie. Have a seat. Have a drink. First one of the evening is on the house. In fact...Something-Something, may I borrow our guest for a couple of ticks?"

The filly gestures in a way that meant she could. The barkeep beckons you over, and whispers in your ear. "Though you can use your hard earned bits to buy drinks from this bar, there is another way. Certain actions you can do as you play can earn you 'Achievement Points' which you can use to buy drinks. Some players even buy drinks for their opponents! And to be polite, the recipient almost always accepts. You'd think they'd be trying to tip the odds in their favour. Whether you choose to do that or not, achievement points come from being entertaining...so try to be interesting, sweetie." She withdraws from you and gives you a glass. You didn't see her fill it; she must have done so whilst whispering to you. "Something-something? The guest is yours!"

The filly then leads to you to the table in the middle of the room, highlighted by the rooflights. "Take a seat," she says, "Please wait warmly for the other guests to arrive."

---

Based off this. (Clicky)

So. Yeah. Poker Night at the Household. Where it's not so much about the money, per se, but about the humorous interactions between colourful characters. If you wish to play simply write in your character's interesting entrance, as demonstrated by Brock Samson, Claptrap, Ash Williams, Sam, and GLaDOS in the linked video. Remember White Woods is watching, and will award Achievement points for entertainment, which you can then exchange for drinks (or maybe even more). Six players are going to be the maximum for the evening, and a basic knowledge of Texas hold 'em is recommended. Hands will be dealt through PM and both money, points, and drinks will be kept track by me.

May fortune be with you.

I want to join this. Naturally i would throw Silver in but depending on who else is here, he may or may not be interesting. Shala, Renny, or Rosselin are other choices for me. But I think I'll wait for others to commit first. And please do! I would love to see this work.

"What even are we doing here?" OzyManedias HATED card games. Vassago insisted that his stellar 'poker face' was optimum for Poker Night.

"Shut up and listen! I've always wanted to get a look inside the Household. And you need the money. Also You need to get out more. And-"

"And you know Nameless will be there." OzyManedias rolled his eyes. His younger friend's unrequited love interest was no secret to him. He also did not care in the slightest.

Vassago giggled as he fantasized.

"Oooh~ her stoic expression. Her always cool demeanor. Something about the way she seems to just screams 'BUCK OFF' Just makes me melt like butter." Vassago slid off OzyManedias' back and landed behind him.

OzyManedias stopped at the door and knocked three times.

While they waited, Ozy checked the briefcase.

"Just where did you get all this money?"

Vassago waved his hoof dismissively. "I know a Mare who knows some Stallion who knows some Foal who's daddy is Filthy Rich and he owes me a couple favors."

"Oh." OzyManedias continued waiting.

((insert opening here!))
Vassago materialized next
"Hey Nameless! Ozy here will be playing because I'm not old enough to legally gamble and the Last thing we need is legal problems. AMIRIGHT"

Vassago laughed loudly before slowly petering out into a unsure chuckle.

OzyManedias pushed Vassago into an empty booth next to the poker table. "Yes yes yes whatever, Casanova. I came because I want to play Poker not let you court your Shrew, Petrucio."

"Ooo! Shakespeare references!"

Vassago sat at a booth adjacent to the main poker table and contented himself with staring at Nameless and fiddling with the Laws of Physics.

"When I come from, we didnt have card games." OzyManedias mused. "But I think I get poker pretty well."

PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeSat May 18, 2013 5:46 pm

((This seems quite interesting indeed, and should prove fairly entertaining if all goes well.))

~~~OC: Suspicious Package~~~
"Let's see... Yep, that's definitely the place."
Suspicious Package looked over the Household once again from his place across the street. He had never been inside himself and had rarely dealt in business related to any of the residents at all, but he had happened to have seen it before. Definitely heard of it before. Most people like him who had heard the stories of the Household tended to stay away from the large mansion, but on that night he had business to attend to there. Kind of.
The Pegasus walked towards the large building at a slow pace, going up the front steps and placing the briefcase that he had brought with him onto the ground next to him once he had reached his destination. The stallion took a few seconds to study the simplistic yet simultaneously intricate carvings found in the wooden front door, and, after the moment of observation had passed, he knocked three times, somewhat anxiously awaiting an answer.
~~Opening goes here~~
Package plopped down into his newly claimed chair at the edge of the poker table, next to a stallion he didn't recognize immediately, but who was accompanied by a foal that he thought he had seen before. However, he couldn't really connect the small pony's face to any particular scene or memory, and so he quickly dismissed the notion. The Pegasus placed his briefcase onto the floor next to his chair, undoing its lock but keeping it closed, and then took a sip of the drink he had been given. He was inclined to simply swallow the whole liquid in one go and then get ten more from the bar right after, but moderation was always key when money was a factor, whether he liked it or not.
Package took a few seconds to look around the room he was, and then turned to face the stallion that was sitting next to him, sporting a friendly expression and speaking in a tone that matched it.
"Hey there! How you doin'?"
(( Well this sure looks like fun. Let's add some 'allure' to this...sorry for that pun :( ))
Rose had always loved this part of Manehatten. She herself owned a property where she lived on occasion not too far from here. The gloriously decorated homes and well maintained streets made a change from the rest of the city.
Wearing a luxurious red dress, Rose paced towards the Household. She was accompanied by a stallion, a bodyguard, who carried the sturdy briefcase containing her entry fee, or buy in. She had made it a goal to go all out tonight, as first impressions were always very important. Although Rose was well aware that she didn't even need such items to make herself beautiful.
However, beneath the stunning figure was a surprisingly intricate mind. Gambling was not something commonly seen as an activity by the mares of the social elite but Rose was not one to conform to such things. Her natural talents wove perfectly into the complexities of a game such as poker. And even if her cards were poor tonight, at least she could enjoy herself.
*OPENING*
"Oh, I can be interesting," Rose whispered back to the barkeep before following the filly.
She found herself a seat at the poker table and produced a mirror to inspect her makeup. At least, that is what she feigned doing. In reality, Rose was observing her competition. So far, a sandy brown pegasus who seemed to have brought some young colt in tow, and another pegasus who didn't appear overly threatening.
((So after another two players, will the game begin?))
OzyManedias smiled as another pegasus walked in and sat by him and greeted him.
"I am doing well I suppose. Never much think of such things." He extended a hoof amiably. "How do you do? My name is..." OzyManedias trailed off as he noticed a stunningly beauteous mare in a luxurious red dress.
He must have looked like he was staring at her like any dumbstruck stallion, but OzyManedias puts his 'stallion hood' after his mental faculties.
Red, an eye catching color. he thought to himself. She wants ponies to look her way. She is wearing a lot of makeup, (Not entirely excessive, and I am certainly not saying she isn't looking remarkable in that red lipstick...) and by the looks of it she is very wealthy.
He caught The red mare's eye in her compact mirror. Oh the clever little minx. She thinks I can't see her eyeing me through her mirror. OzyManedias winked at Rose through the mirror.
Vassago glanced at the two ponies who came to the table. There was some stiff competition. Mr. Package seemed to want to just have fun, Which was entirely acceptable and totally respectable.
But Ms. Allure, now that was an enigmatic mare if ever Vass had heard of.
He contented himself with moving over to the bar.
"A Shirley Temple." He ordered from White Woods. "Oh! With extra cherries! Please."
[After Kore does his introduction, I think we'll get this game on the road.]
"Welcome esteemed guests...plus one," Nameless said, curtsying then giving a flat stare at the colt who had taken a rather irritating interest in her, "We will start when the final stragglers get here. I know for a fact..."
"Something-something! Mr Manedias' Shirley Temple, with extra cherries!"
"Excuse me," Nameless said, before proceeding to the bar and retrieving the order. The Bartender scanned over the guests, keeping track of who was to come. "Say, Something. Didn't the boss say she invited an old friend of hers? From way back?"
"Yes, White," Nameless said, returning to the table.
Poker Night at the Household Empty
PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeSun May 19, 2013 10:59 pm
A stern knock was heard at the door. It seemed the last player had arrived. When greeted, the middle aged pony simply entered, not bothering with introductions or socializing. What he did offer was his duster to 'Something' by tossing the large coat to drape entirely over the small filly.
The ring of spurs chimed down the entrance hall until the pony in question came into view. He wore his customary vest, hat, and katana as he always did. Eyes hidden under his hat, he stopped at the room entrance to look around, noting entrances, exits, cover, object, anything movable, before his eyes looked sharply over the other ponies at the table.
He didn't like them. But when did he ever? Resuming his metallic pace toward the last seat at the table, Silver took his seat slowly, as if to not strain himself in even the slightest. He wasted no time in pulling out a cigarette from his vest and lighting it. Anypony paying attention would notice the tightly wrapped bandage around his left hoof had some bloodstains to it that looks somewhat fresh.
Comfortable with his cigarette, Silver tapped his hoof on the table. "I'll have a whisky."
Nameless brought Silver his whisky and cleared her throat.
"The game is Badland hold 'em, with the 52-card four suit deck. The buy-in is ten thousand bits plus-"
Fzzzt. Click. Click. Buzzzzznn.
The lights went out, coating the area in darkness, before turning back on after a couple of clicks.
Where Nameless used to be, a much more elderly maid stood, frowning at the lights. "Should probably get them looked at. Where were we? Oh yes," Loyal grinned, "Twenty thousand bit buy in, or ten thousand and an item of value. If you put in such an item, whoever is lucky enough to knock you out shall take it."
Waiting until the players had paid their fees, Loyal continued as Nameless passed out the chips, stacking them neatly in front of each player, "The chips are stacked, the deck is shuffled...let's play a game with the Lady, shall we?"
[Will be continued after players pay up.]
[Play order will be decided by order of payment.]
[Everypony starts at a total of 20, 000 bits, no matter if they put in an item of of value or not]
OZYMANEDIAS:20,000b
S. PACKAGE:20,000b
R. ALLURE:20,000b
S. SPUR:20,000b
PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeTue May 21, 2013 9:08 pm
Vassago stared in awe at Silver Spurs as he walked into the Household.
"Wow."
He clapped his hooves together excitedly. "I mean WOW. Have you ever seen something so authentic? I mean he even ordered whiskey! WHISKEY! and don't even get me started on that amazing hat and those spurs." the foal giggled as he lunged under the table to fiddle with the spurs on the cowpony.
"I mean THOSE SPURS THOUGH." He gushed.
OzyManedias sat patiently.
His patience was waning. "Vassago."
"Do you smoke? you probably smoke. all the best smoked. Cigars too. Always cigars."
"Vassago."
"OH OH! Have you ever killed anypony? are you a criminal? with a criminal record? and wanted posters?"
OzyManedias go up and grabbed the foal by the scruff of his neck.
"Vassago, I swear to Faust I cannot take you anywhere. Leave the stallion alone and sit in your corner or so help me..." He glared at Vassago threateningly. Vassago stared up at him pleadingly, then gave up and slunk into the bench with his Shirley Temple, taking a long sip.
"Fine." Vassago muttered. "Nameless is the only one for me anyway." He winked at his 'friend' from across the room. He waved and called over to the little maid. "You know its hard to hit on you from across the room!"
Meanwhile, back at the table, OzyManedias sat down and took a deep breath. "I... apologize sir. My friend over there doesn't understand personal space. I will not allow him to bother you again."
The lights flickered and died.
Fzzzt. Click. Click. Buzzzzznn.
The lights went out, coating the area in darkness, before turning back on after a couple of clicks.
Where Nameless used to be, a much more elderly maid stood, frowning at the lights. "Should probably get them looked at. Where were we? Oh yes," Loyal grinned, "Twenty thousand bit buy in, or ten thousand and an item of value. If you put in such an item, whoever is lucky enough to knock you out shall take it."
OzyManedias stared at the elder maid long and hard. He could have sworn they had met before but couldn't remember quite where.
Regardless, he wordlessly reached down and brought up the briefcase. He opened it and brought out two things:
Ten thousand bits in a sack, and a long, silver sickle with a emerald in the pommel. along the blade an engraved snake slithered towards the tip and the grip was wrapped in black leather. The metal parts had a strange tarnish, making parts seem a little oily.
"Where I come from, weapons are considered to be reflections on the owner. This was my fathers, and I'm told that it is also worth a pretty penny."
Poker Night at the Household Empty
PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeWed May 22, 2013 3:19 am
The stallion extended his hoof, and Package shook it with a smile.
"I am doing well I suppose. Never much think of such things. How do you do? My name is..."
The pony trailed off, seemingly looking past the Pegasus at something, or somepony, else. Package turned around in his seat and saw that one of the missing players had entered the room, this one a, well, really quite stunning mare, wearing a luscious red dress and just enough make-up to make her look even more beautiful than she would naturally be, but not so much that she ended up looking like she was about to play the part of a zompony in a play or film.
Package grinned slightly to himself for no apparent reason when he saw the mare, and was soon distracted from her when he heard the sound of hoofsteps approaching the entrance to the room, each step accompanied by the slight jingling of something metal. Soon enough, a fourth pony joined the other players at the table, looking just like a generic cowpony ((such a weird term if you think about it)), wearing metal spurs, a desperado hat and a large trench coat, which he had proceeded to throw onto the filly that had led the other players into the room they were currently in. The stallion didn't say anything to the other ponies when he sat down, simply ordering a whiskey and lighting a cigarette with barely a glance at the other people in the room.
Soon after the pony had arrived, the colt that the first arrival had brought with him proceeded to make various comments on the new pony's apparel and demeanor while playing with his spurs. He did this for at least a minute before his...caretaker?...carried him back to the spot at which he had originally sat, apologizing to the likely annoyed stallion after he had done so.
Not long after this scene had gone down, the foal that had ushered them all in spoke to all of them, addressing the subject of the game that was to take place.
"The game is Badland hold 'em, with the 52-card four suit deck. The buy-in is ten thousand bits plus-"
Fzzzt. Click. Click. Buzzzzznn.
The lights flickered out for a few seconds, causing the room to be consumed by complete darkness for a few seconds before they came on again. When the room was lit once again, the filly that had been speaking to them was replaced by an older mare that had somehow managed to appear in her place. Package blinked a few times to make sure he was seeing right, and then shrugged to himself. Huh. That was weird.
"Should probably get them looked at. Where were we? Oh yes. Twenty thousand bit buy in, or ten thousand and an item of value. If you put in such an item, whoever is lucky enough to knock you out shall take it."
The stallion that he had sat next to was the first to pay up, placing a stack of ten thousand bits on the table along with a very elegant and expensive-looking dagger.
"Where I come from, weapons are considered to be reflections on the owner. This was my father's, and I'm told that it is also worth a pretty penny."
Package opened his own briefcase slightly and pulled out four stacks of currency ((I'm guessing in paper form, otherwise that would be incredibly hard to manage)), each one containing a total of five thousand bits. He placed the stacks onto the poker table, and then closed his briefcase back up.
"That really is a really nice dagger." I wonder how much it could sell for on the black market... "I myself would rather not risk losing something personal of mine, though. So there you go, twenty thousand bits." He nodded to the newly arrived announcing mare before taking another sip of his drink.
As Rose Allure packed her mirror away, she observed a new entry. From his apparel, it was clear enough to anyone that he was from the West. Most likely that backwater collection of houses labelled Appleloosa. In fact, Rosette would go so far as to say he was likely some sort of outlaw. He didn't appear to be the most friendly looking of ponies.
This was not helped by the sudden flurry of questions that threw from the colt's mouth as he decided the cowpony was his new best friend. She bet that he was none to pleased by the little unicorn's newly placed affection.
"I hope everypony here can all restrain from killing one another," Rose remarked, as if to herself but loud enough for the others to hear.
"The game is Badland hold 'em, with the 52-card four suit deck. The buy-in is ten thousand bits plus-"
Fzzzt. Click. Click. Buzzzzznn.
The sudden darkness caught Rose off guard. She could here her bodyguard take a few steps closer to her although she doubted he needed to. Sure enough, the lights came back on and in place of the filly stood an older mare.
After the other two had paid, Rose clapped her hooves together. Her bodyguard appeared at her side and placed the briefcase on the table, to which she entered the combination with a simple glow of her horn. She spun the case around to display the full amount of 20,000 bits.
"I'm sure this will suffice. Perhaps the Household could use it to pay for their electricity bills," she jokingly stated, a grin gracing her lips.
Poker Night at the Household Empty
PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeThu May 23, 2013 2:49 am
Silver slowly turned his gaze to the younger unicorn. He blankly watched him as he bursted with excitement and interest. One would think with an expression like that he would be impossible to read at the poker table.
Until he smirked. Anypony that knew him knew that Silver did not smirk. Not since the only ponies that could get that out of him were either dead or....left. His legendary frown was broken and he chuckled at Vassago as he was dragged away. Normally any pony that touched him or his spurs got something unwanted in return, but the youngster reminded him of a pony from a long time ago....
It didn't take long for the smile to vanish as the unicorn left the table. Such an expression was likely to never be seen on him again. He gave the other ponies another once over, noting Rose for a moment longer than the others.
"The game is Badland hold 'em, with the 52-card four suit deck. The buy-in is ten thousand bits plus-"
Fzzzt. Click. Click. Buzzzzznn.
As the lights came on, Silver was on all fours, wings unfurled, and katana at the ready to be drawn. His eyes quickly found the new arrival.
.....Her.....
Silver didn't ease up for several moments, as if he wasn't sure if the danger was over. Or maybe there was something else going through his head. Something that went through his mind more strongly than his sense of survival.
He didn't know why he would come to such an event. Especially when invited to one out of the blue by her. But how could he not? Of all the daily survival decisions he made every day venturing into society, none set off alarms more than that invitation. Yet here he was. Showing up by request by the pony that arguably set him on a track in life that defined him to the core.
He broke his stance and calmly sat down at the table as if nothing happen. Taking his fallen cigarette off the table, he looked around once more at his surroundings, noting the exits and ponies that were in the way of them. With a nod toward her, he tilted his hat.
"Evening..."
A hoof went to the inside of his vest and pulled out a bag. Dumping the contents on the table, various items of value rolled out of it. Paper bits, jewelry, coin, a chunk of a gold bar, and most notably, a large ruby with a gold band around it. Neighponies writting was engraved in the gold and probably made up for most of the value.
Silently, he took a sip of his whisky to patiently wait for the game to commence. While appearing calm, anypony that got a look under the brim of his hat to see his eyes would note he kept an eye in Loyal's direction.
PostSubject: Re: Poker Night at the Household   Poker Night at the Household I_icon_minitimeThu May 23, 2013 8:44 am
"I hope you have all prepared your poker faces," Loyal smiled, shuffling the deck like an old hoof, "For it is three times more likely that you will lose tonight. Winner takes the 60,000b, but the ones lucky enough to eliminate Mr Ozymanedias and Swordie will get their respective items. Now-"
"Wait, boss!"
At the bar, White put up a chalkboard. It read:
Quote :
DRINKS MENU
WHEN BUYING MULTIPLE DRINKS AT ONCE...
2ND DRINK - 75%
3RD DRINK - 50%
4TH DRINK - 25%
(ROUNDED UP)
BEER - 5 POINTS
MALT LIQUOR - 7 POINTS
TABLE WINE - 12 POINTS
FORTIFIED WINE - 17 POINTS
LIQUEUR - 24 POINTS
BRANDY - 40 POINTS
80-PROOF SPIRIT - 40 POINTS
HOUSEHOLD SPECIALS
??? - 50 POINTS
??? - 60 POINTS
??? - 70 POINTS
??? - 80 POINTS
??? - 90 POINTS
??? - 100 POINTS
"You're doing the points thing again?" Loyal asked in resigned irritation, "Who did you- Never mind. It's their call if they want to do that sort of thing. The blinds are 400b and 800b. Let's play, shall we?"
POT: 1,200b
ORDER:
OZYMANEDIAS: 19,600b
S. PACKAGE: 19,200b
R. ALLURE: 20,000b
S. SPUR: 20,000b
"Just in case nerves have gotten to you and you have forgotten the rules, Ms Allure, then Swordie, then Mr Manedias, then Mr Package for the opportunity to call, raise, or fold. Then I shall deal the flop. Order starts with the small blind, in this case, Mr Manedias. Same with the turn and the river. And Ms Woods probably has some silly achievement list in her head that you might want to take advantage of. Now-"
She dealt two cards to each player.
"-we begin."
Rosette Allure observed as White Woods placed the chalkboard up for all to see containing information on drinks. Her curiosity was certainly piqued by the mysterious Household Specials. They surely knew how to make a game interesting.
Now that she had paid her buy-in, Rose gestured a hoof towards to her bodyguard. The stallion nodded and wordlessly left to the other side of the room
"Now, we begin."
And so the game had begun. It was a now that the true excitement of gambling came to light. Each little sign, all movements and every little decision was equally important. Rose simply loved the thrill, especially as it called for an excellent chance at manipulation, all in the benefit of profit and entertainment.
"Good luck gentlecolts," said Rose, smiling at each of them, spare Vassago (for she rather disliked filles and colts), "Just remember we cannot all be winners."
Her horn glowed purple as she took her cards in her magical grasp and peered at them, all while keeping her expression emotionless. Taking note of her hand, Rose pursed her lips and nodded to herself.
"Call," she stated simply.
Silver glanced up at Loyal at the nickname. He wanted to talk to her, or even just a reaction from her, but this was public space, and Silver didn't like letting his guard down. So instead, he waited patiently for his cards. Even when everypony had them, he did not look at his until all the others had, watching their reactions.
First round was always a wild one. No one knew anypony here and there was no telling what to expect from each pony. It was a round to test and measure. He noted Rose's rather bland play. While simple, it stood out a lot for a 'high stakes' poker game. He would have to keep an eye out, especially for that mare's smile.
He glanced at his cards with the same unmoving face he did whether he was enjoying a drink or starring down the barrel of a gun.
Silently, he pushed in 800 chips for the blind, plus another 1000.
((Assuming everything that happened at the Household, stays in the Household, Ozy is going to be a little more open.))
"I myself would rather not risk losing something personal of mine, though. So there you go, twenty thousand bits."
OzyManedias laughed so hard he almost fell out of his chair. "Personal?" He said after he recovered, he still couldn't help but giggle every now and then. "Personal? Sir, I killed my father."
Vassago tapped the side of his glass. "Awkward."
With a smile on his face, he watched the other players take their turn. The Red Mare was hardly taking any risks, which was boring. The CowPony though...
"As I always used to say, Carpe Diem. I raise."
OzyManedias added 1200 bits to the pot, plus the small blind he already added.
The stallion laughed for a few seconds after Package had spoken. He recovered after a short amount of time, and then replied to the pony's words.
"Personal? Personal? Sir, I killed my father."
"Oh. Cool."
Package ~Insert MLP equivalent of a thumbs up here~ to the stallion, and then turned to face the table again. The cards were dealt, and he instinctively looked over at the cards of the other players, in case any of them were visible from his angle of view. None of the members of the game were stupid enough to make such a simple mistake, though. Well, worth a shot.
The Pegasus lifted up the tips of his cards and then allowed them to lay flat on the table again after he had the contents of his hand lodged in his memory. He watched the players as they took their turns, noting a variety of small details that the others exhibited, the same friendly but slightly bored expression on his face as was always exhibited.
"As I always used to say, Carpe Diem. I raise."
Soon enough it became his neighbor's turn, and then it was Package's time to play. The stallion took a little less than two seconds to think, and then made a single clicking sound with his tongue, pushing forward 800 bits in chip form. The Pegasus then took another sip of his drink and leaned back comfortably in his chair, speaking once he had done so.
"Call." He paused for a second, and then spoke again. "So where you all from?"
Package didn't want this game to consist of all the players staring each other down silently, and so he intended to keep that from happening. Heck, if he was lucky some ponies might get distracted enough to perform worse.
(You guys are both short 200 bits. Not sure if you did that on accident or by design.)
Loyal looks over the table owlishly.
"I hope this mistake is not a clear sign of your incompetence at simple mathematics," she says flatly, "Swordie has raised 1000b above the blind. That means you need to add an extra 1000b to the 400b you needed to match the blind. 1000 plus 400 is 1400. You appear to have only added 1200. If one cannot add, it makes me curious to see what sort of mind then goes on to think they can play a game that involves probability. But then again, it's your money. And your willingness to look stupid."
((This is going out of posting order but whatever I am fixing it.))
OzyManedias facehoofed. "The mind of somepony who still thinks in a base 2/5 numerical system. Apparently."
He carefully counted out the unaccounted for 200 and added it to the pot. "I apologize." He turned to the friendly pegasus and leaned back in his chair. "Well right now I live in a little townhouse in the outskirts of Ponyville, but I'm pretty new to Equestria. I... er... 'arrived' about a year or two ago. Can't really remember."
((I would have just edited it (Try saying that really fast), but whatevs))
The dealer proceeded to explain to Ozy his mistake, and Package simply rolled his eyes as she spoke, slightly amused by the other stallion's mistake and also slightly disappointed with his own mistake of following the pony's lead without catching the simple error. The other Pegasus added 200 more bits to the pot, and Package did the same without a word.
"Well right now I live in a little townhouse in the outskirts of Ponyville, but I'm pretty new to Equestria. I... er... 'arrived' about a year or two ago. Can't really remember."
Package nodded to the other pony's words. "Cool. I was born an' raised here in Manehattan, don't really go outside of the city much 'xcept for special occasions. An' what about you two?"
Observing the players around her, Rose found herself amused at the banter between them. She couldn't help but smile at the mistakes. She was a little surprised that ponies at such a high-stakes poker game could make such simple errors. Despite her happy appearance, she felt a little underwhelmed by her cards, and decided to show as such.
"I'm afraid I'll have to fold," she remarked, pushing her cards away from her.
Just because she was now out for now didn't mean she couldn't engage in conversation. She addressed Package as she spoke.
"I'm from Canterlot myself, though I spend much of my time between here and there. Manehatten has it's specialities too. In fact, I own a property not too far from here." She made eye contact with Package, giving him a look that could easily be interpreted as seductive. "Perhaps you would like to visit sometime..."
