Tough Decisions

----- A few days ago -----

Erigo was a mess. she couldn't bear to work or stay at her house. they both held too many memories. She had to come to Ponyville to talk to her sister, Dylgo. a recent string of thoughts and a well placed flyer advertising medical procedures had gotten her thinking.

Dylgo was there to meet her. The letter she had received was fairly concerning. it only mentioned that she was coming to town and that she wanted to talk about something. seeing her arriving, Dylgo ran over at full speed. Her wing still bandaged, she couldn't fly over. "Erigo! What's wrong? Should we talk in private?" Dylgo asked with a concerned look. "That... uh... yeah, in private..." Erigo said quietly.

------ a few hours later -----

Erigo was drenched in tears at this point. She had spilled her guts to her sister and revealed everything.she just couldn't think of much else to do than cry as her sister embraced her. "I just... I don't know what to do anymore!" She said through the tears. "I just want to be normal..." Erigo dug her face deeper into Dylgo's shoulder.

It was an awful lot to take in. She wasn't aware things between Erigo and her wife were so strained. combined with the news of how she felt, Dylgo was a little overwhelmed. "Erigo... you are normal. don't let some jerk tell you otherwise." Dylgo said with a stern face. "but, if you think a procedure will help you, I think you should go for it." Erigo sniffled a little and looked up at her sister. "You really think so?" "of course I do. You're my older sister, Erigo. I love you and only want the best for you."

----- Current day -----

Erigo decided to stay in town for as long as she needed. she couldn't bear to be alone right now. Dylgo was busy, however, so she would usually spend her time perched on a cloud above town square in an attempt to stay out of the crowd. looking down at the ponies trotting around to attend to business and family, Erigo was saddened by how they all seemed so normal.

She didn't like thinking like this. it always got to her. letting a tear escape, she lies down on the cloud again, resigning to her thoughts.

Doodle was busy zooming around delivering commissions when she noticed sounds coming from a large cloud right above the town square. To her it sounded like the pony was upset and could use a good friend. Quickly placing her saddle bag on the ground she unfurled her wings and launched herself into the sky giving two mighty downwards thrusts of her wings to get her airborne.

She let out a sharp gasp upon recognizing the grey, pink-eyed mare, she quickly darted to Erigo's side. "Oh my gosh! Erigo, what happened?" she asked in a worried tone hoping she could do her best efforts to try to comfort her.

Erigo looked up with her head still buried in her forelegs. She wasn't expecting to see Doodle again, but it was good to see a friend. "I-it's a long story..." she said, sniffling. She needed a friend, but she didn't want to put her troubles on Doodle. unfurling her wings, she stand up and wipes some tears away. "My... uhm... My wife... left me" She said quietly.

Erigo didn't want passer-bys to hear this. not only because her wife left her, but because she didn't want the general public to know about her. "I came to Ponyville to be with my younger sister, but she's busy today. So... I decided to stay up on this cloud." She said, looking down at the crowd. She was holding back info, and obviously so. she was terrible at lying to others and was even worse at keeping secrets.

Doodle gasped and put a hoof to her mouth, "Oh my gosh, that's terrible! I'm soo sorry!" She then put one hoof on Erigo's shoulder and pulled her into a hug. "Just so you know, I'll always be here for you! When my friends are upset, I'm upset and there's nothing I wouldn't do to cheer a good friend up! Oh wait!"

She then tucked her wings in and dove down towards her saddle then quickly unfurled them to gently land on the ground and begun to root around in her saddle bag. "Um I've got my usual welcome to Ponyville act and... um, oh!" She pulled out a large stone sized chocolate chip cookie then flew back up to Erigo not wanting to draw too much attention to her upset friend.

"Made 100% out of my grandmare's old recipe! I hope you like it!" She said handing over the cookie with a huge smile on her face. "I'll stay here with you and keep you company for as long as you want!"

Erigo Hugged Doodle back a little tighter than she had originally intended. It was great the Doodle was so willing to drop what she was doing just to help her out. it was a little inspiring, actually. "Thanks Doodle..." She said as Doodle went diving off the cloud. looking down at her, she was very curious as to what she was doing. as she was flying back up, she saw the cookie.

"Made 100% out of my grandmare's old recipe! I hope you like it!"

Doodle's smile was contagious. wiping away another stray tear, she smiled a little as she took the cookie. "I do like it. Thank you so much Doodle..."

"I'll stay here with you and keep you company for as long as you want!"

Erigo smiled a little more at this. Doodle really was a true friend. as she thought that, another thought dawned on her. her facing going blank for a second, she debated with herself about whether or not to tell her what she was thinking of doing. eventually, though, her mouth spoke without her. "Hey, Doodle? I-I want to get your opinion on something..."

Doodle's ears perked forward as she listened intently. "I'm all ears!" She said wondering what could be on her mind that would be troubling her so much. It must've been something bigger than just her wife leaving her although she didn't want to pressure her into talking.

Erigo was visibly shaking. in all honesty, she didn't know Doodle that well. they had met the day before she was set to leave town, after all. either way, though, it was too late to back out of telling her now. "Well..." she said, rubbing her foreleg. "For a long time I haven't felt... normal. I feel so unnatural being me..." she said as her face gradually got more and more depressed.

Erigo thought hard about what to say next. thinking of no way to really explain it, she decides to just say it. "I was thinking about getting a sex-change..." Erigo paused for a short while. she was really hoping that Doodle would be supportive. "I just think It'd be more natural for me if I was a stallion."

Doodle's eyes widened for a minute then she smiled and patted Erigo's shoulder. "Don't you worry about a thing! If you think this is the best way to go in making your life a much happier one, heck, I'm all for it! I'll always cheer you on until the end!"

She then did a few arial flips and spins hoping to infect Erigo with her high energy happiness. "Woo woo woo woo woo woo! Go Erigo!" She yelled loud but not loud enough for ponies to hear from the ground.

As Erigo waited, she scrunched her face as she prepared for Doodle's response. Doodle's hoof being placed on her shoulder got her to open an eye. welcomed by the sight of Doodle smiling got her to relax.

"Don't you worry about a thing! If you think this is the best way to go in making your life a much happier one, heck, I'm all for it! I'll always cheer you on until the end!"

Erigo smiled warmly back at Doodle for this. her hyper-active antics were indeed contagious. "hehe, Thanks Doodle. Really." She said as she sat back up a little. Waiting for an opportunity, she stood up and darted over to Doodle and hugged her mid-air. "You really are a true friend."

Doodle hugged her back in mid-air and said, "Of course! I'll always be there for a friend!" She then asked. "So when are you getting this whole operation done? I wanna be there to welcome you into a new life... well um, only if you'd like me there of course, I wouldn't want to intrude."

I wonder what I should get Erigo as a 'Welcome to your new life' present. Hm... Flowers? Eh no... she um he will be a stallion... what do stallions like? Um... not jewelry Stallion... gotta think like a stallion... Um DB, why don't you just ask her? Because I want it to be a surprise... Eh, I'll ask Dylgo or maybe I'll bake something using my grandmare's old cook book.

Hovering in the air, Erigo thinks about this. "I'm not sure when it's gonna happen. I haven't even talked to the doctor yet." She was curious as t how soon it could happen and how long it would take. making a mare into a stallion can't be a quick process. "I would love to have you there, Doodle." she said, smiling warmly.

looking back down at the ground, she keeps an eye on Doodle's saddle bags. back in Manehattan, they would have been taken by now. this really told for how nice a place Ponyville is.

"Awesome! Well, tell me when you decide to get it done so I can bring you a present!" Doodle said smiling then flew down to pick up her saddle bag then zoomed back up to Erigo smiling. "Hey, you want to grab some lunch? I'm starving!"

"There's several awesome places in Ponyville I haven't shown you. Come on, it'll be fun!"

Erigo was truly happy for the first time in a long time. She had finally found somepony who wasn't family that made her truly feel like she belonged. "I'd love to get something to eat! I'm also starving." Erigo just couldn't resist smiling. Doodle's happiness was indeed contagious.

"There's no need to get me a present, Doodle. just being there is present enough."

"But I want to go over and above just being there and besides, it'll be fun to go shopping!" She said beaming while skipping along the old dirt road. She was thrilled to make one of her friends smile, like an old wise mare said, "One can only be truly happy when they share it with another!" Although she hadn't a clue who she was or if she was actually talking to her.

She mentally shrugged as they made their way towards this classy dinner where a blue maned white stallion said, "Outdoors or indoors?" Doodle then looked at Erigo and shrugged. "You pick!"

Erigo Smiled as Doodle talked about wanting to be there for her. it really meant a lot to her.

"Hmm." Erigo said as she thought about where to eat. "You know, it's a nice day. let's eat outside." She said smiling.

"Outside please!" Doodle said enthusiastically met with a casual nod and lead them back in the back of the shop then gestured towards the table. Doodle happily giggled and bounced over to her seat then grabbed the menu in front of her.

"Hm, what are you going to get? I hear the daisy and daffodil sandwich is really good but then I could get the hay fries... Oh I don't know... I'll get what you get!"
