| Whirring Gears, the Hextech Artificer- Spoiler:
Gender:Male Species:Unicorn Mane:Tannish brown with a streak of crimson red Tail:Same as mane Eyes:Clear sky blue Body:brown, tall, lanky Cutie Mark:a group of gears Age (Baby,adult):21 Personality:Good-natured, sociable around everyone (except those who he feels represent a threat to his art), eccentric, and can never sit still for too long. With a brilliant mind and clever hooves, he creates clever devices whose uses can range from a wide variety of things. What makes these little tinkers more potent is that he imbues them with a modicum of magical power to make them work, thus coining the term "hextech". He can also be abnormally paranoid and has occasional hallucinations of bats trying to eat him(a left-over remnant from a particularly trying childhood memory). Overall, he's a genial character whose borderline-naive sincerity is balanced out by a short-fused temper and an intolerance for annoyances. Likes:making things, reading books about making things, and buying things to help make things Dislikes:bats, the outdoors, and inclement weather that can ruin his sensitive inventions History: Whirring Gears was born as a pony of wealth and means to the owners of an absurdly profitable Manehattan-based shipping company. With his parents caring little to spend time with him, he would oftentimes lock himself in his room for hours reading about mechanics and subjects that should have been far beyond his comprehension, then creating small knick-knacks from pieces of scrap he could find around the house and outside in his mansion's yard. When he turned 8, he shocked his parents by presenting them with a small mechanical sailboat on wheels that could move itself; being ponies of status, they strongly discouraged him from doing such a thing again (of course he didn't listen, and much to his parents' dismay a cutie mark of gears had already appeared on his bum.) Things came to a point when at age 18 he ran away from home to attend West Manehattan University to learn more about the mechanical universe rather than take over for his father's business, which lead to his family disowning him. However, Whirring Gears didn't care too much; he'd found likeminded friends at the university and had secretly been stashing away funds after years of fixing broken items for his neighbors. He now lives in Ponyville with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and spends his time creating new tinkers endlessly. Example RP segment: - Spoiler:
Whirring Gears was walking home to his apartment after classes when a pony rudely shoved his way into him and inserted something into his bags before dashing off, causing Gears to stare after him indignantly. "Why, of all the nerve-" Whirring Gears exclaimed, glaring darkly after culprit who had jostled him. "He could have ruined these extremely rare parts I need for my thesis!"
Still fuming over the insensitivity of some ponies, Whirring Gears rifled through his bags until he felt something that didn't belong. "Aha! Now we shall see what our 'friend' was so keen to plant on m- Oh dear." Whirring Gears found himself staring at a very sharp and very pointy knife that he dropped almost immediately. "Say, perhaps that chap-"
"Stop in the name of the law!" A member of the Royal Guard quickly came upon him in a rather gung ho fashion and, spotting the knife, immediately lowered his spear. "You there! I'm taking you in custody for attempting to rob that bank over there!"
It was at this inopportune moment that Whirring Gears recalled a joke he had just heard about quarks, causing him to snicker. This seemed to further enrage the guard, who started shoving his spear menacingly in his direction. "You aren't going to find this so funny once I land you in jail, so hooves up!"
Taking a moment to compose himself, Whirring stared levelly at the hapless guard. "You don't really suppose I robbed that bank, do you? Why, then, would I be so foolish as to be standing here where I could be easily caught?"
The guard was caught off by this reply. "Well, I, urhm-"
"Even if I WERE foolish enough to stay in this place, I'd at least have enough sense to hide the weapon I used in these bags I'm holding right here, wouldn't I? Keeping it out in the open like this would just scream 'Hey! Arrest me!'"
"Uhhh-"
"Are you really so much of a nincompoop as to keep thinking I'm the bloody burglar!? For Celestia's sake, keep chasing after that charlatan whose nearing the end of the street! Go on now!" At this point, Whirring Gears gave the unfortunate guard one of his 'death glares' that he used on all who annoyed him to the point of anger (that point being extremely, extremely easy to reach).
At that, the guard simply gulped before continuing his chase down the road. "Hey you there, thief! Stop in the name of the law!"
Shaking his head, Whirring reached into his pack when he realized with dismay that he'd left his notebooks in class. "Bollocks!"

| I like your OC, and the idea of hextech is intriguing. My only concern is what type of inventions he may create. Small, handy inventions are fine but be sure to stay away from large ones such as cars or planes :P. I'll need your reassurance and perhaps a few more examples of what he invents, if you please. | |

| To add to that, is Hextech supposed to be some reference to League of Legends?
Because crossover elements in OC characters should be avoided (with the exception of any RP's in the AU thread).
However, if it's simply using the same name, it should be fine. | |

However, if it's simply using the same name, it should be fine. It's just using the same name, rest assured. I can't really find a better way to imply a combination of magic and technology besides "hextech", so I'm treating it as if that's how my OC labels what he invents. Rest assured, I won't be trying to replicate anything from League of Legends, although I can remove the word hextech if that makes it more reassuring Also, of course I won't make anything large like planes or cars. What I had in mind are quirky trinkets like swiss army clocks and small mechanical golems with limited range and functionality (doing stuff like taking me my tea, newspapers, etc... basically servants that are as big as my hoof) The golems might be a bit too much, but I assure you that it's my most radical idea. The thought of planes and cars never even crossed my mind ^.^ | |
